JetSmart has taken a significant step in Peruvian aviation by landing its new Airbus A321neo at the Capitán FAP Carlos Martínez de Pinillos International Airport in Trujillo at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 18.

The A321neo, one of the most modern and sustainable aircraft in South America, has a capacity of 240 seats, which represents a 30% increase in the capacity offered, compared to the 186 seats of the A320neo models.

“This aircraft symbolizes our commitment to continue strengthening connectivity in the region and even more so to continue giving impetus to the development of interregional routes by increasing capacity on our Trujillo - Santiago de Chile route. This is the first time that a provincial airport in our country receives an A321neo and we are proud that it is an ultra low cost airline that marks this important milestone,” said Francesca Luna, country manager of JetSmart Peru.

This route, inaugurated in 2019, thanks to the joint work between JetSmart and Aeropuertos del Perú (AdP), concessionaire of 12 regional airports and belonging to the Sandoval Group, generated an important milestone in the decentralization and international connectivity in Peru.

“It fills us with satisfaction to have bet in 2019 on this route that integrates the best of both destinations and that, at the close of 2024, has allowed us to connect more than 47 thousand travelers. The incorporation of this aircraft with greater capacity is the result of a joint effort to expand the offer in the market and continue to promote economic development in the regions where we operate,” said Evans Avendaño, CEO of Aeropuertos del Perú.

In addition, due to the sustained growth of this connection, AdP is adapting the passenger terminal of the Trujillo International Airport and is developing in parallel the Technical File of what will be the new airport terminal.

It is recalled that this route was a historic event for the La Libertad region. To date, it is the only flight operated by an ultra low cost airline that directly connects a regional capital, such as the city of eternal spring, Trujillo, with the Chilean capital.
