Every day of the year, hundreds of eager surfers visit the Lobitos district in the city of Talara to sail its perfect waves, fish and enjoy nature. Talara is one of the eight provinces that make up the department of Piura and has a population of 132,695 inhabitants. Its main activity revolves around oil extraction and it is expected that the Modernization Project of the Talara Refinery (PMRT) will bring further growth and development to the area. Fishing is also an important source of wealth thanks to the variety of marine wildlife species. Here, cold and tropical water currents converge, attracting tourists to try water sports and enjoy the beach resorts of Cabo Blanco, El Ñuro and Mancora. Among the dense forests of carob that populate its always dry ravines, birds such as “chisco” and “soña” can be heard singing; or if you’re lucky, you will see the flight of the Cortarrama, an endemic bird of Peru that is in danger of extinction.
